Bitcoin Energy Calculator
Bitcoin's energy footprint from first principles: network hashrate times fleet efficiency. Change the efficiency assumption and watch every headline number move with it.

How it works
power (W) = hashrate (TH/s) × efficiency (J/TH)
per-tx = daily energy ÷ daily transactions
Worked example
700 EH/s at 25 J/TH is 17.5 GW, about 153 TWh a year. Spread over 450k daily transactions that reads 933 kWh each, though per-tx math misleads since blocks settle batches regardless of count.
FAQ
Is energy per transaction a fair metric?
Mostly no. Mining secures the ledger, not individual transactions; energy would be similar with half or double the transaction count. It is included here because people search it.
What efficiency should I assume?
Modern ASICs run 15-25 J/TH; the mixed global fleet is estimated between 25-35. The truth is unobservable, which is why this is an input.
