How it works

fee per hop = base fee + size × ppm ÷ 1,000,000

total = per-hop × hops

Worked example

100,000 sats through three hops at 1 sat base + 300 ppm costs 93 sats, 0.093%. The same payment on-chain during congestion could cost several thousand sats.

FAQ

What is a ppm?

Parts per million of the payment: 300 ppm is 0.03% per hop. Node operators set it per channel to price their liquidity.

Why do some payments fail then succeed?

Pathfinding: your node tries routes until one has enough balanced liquidity. Fees can differ per attempt because the route did.
