How it works
APY = (1 + APR/m)^m − 1
APR = m × ((1 + APY)^(1/m) − 1)
Worked example
12% APR compounded daily is 12.75% APY. Flip side: a quoted 12% APY is only 11.33% APR daily-compounded, lower than the farm above.
FAQ
Which number should I compare on?
APY, because it reflects what you actually end up with. Convert everything to APY first, then compare.
Why do the two differ more at high rates?
Compounding grows exponentially with the rate. At 5% the gap is 0.13 points; at 100% APR daily-compounded APY is 171%.
